Carla Schmakel

Carla’s credentials include a Bachelor of Music from the American Conservatory of Music, advances studies in piano performance and pedagogy with Philip Cohen, artistic director of the Leonardo Project, and chamber music master classes at Northwestern University. Carla is a faculty member of the Jack Benny Center for the Arts, an active member of the National Guild of Piano Teachers-American College of Musicians, and a former member of the American Women Composers-Midwest, having served as a performer-lecturer for the organizations concert series for six sessions. Each spring she joins with Chicago College of Performing Arts faculty to judge the entries in the annual Virginia and Seymour LaRock Composition Prize for Roosevelt University students. Her compact disc includes live performances from Preston Bradley Hall at the Chicago Cultural Center, Goodspeed Hall at the University of Chicago, the Tree Arts Club, Ganz Hall at Roosevelt University, Sherwood Conservatory and others. Carla holds the Botanical Art Illustration Certificate from the Morton Arboretum and is a member of the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators.
