Kindermusik® is the world’s leading early childhood music and movement program for newborns to age 7. Taught by licensed educators across the country and internationally, each Kindermusik® class is a world of discovery and adventure. Your child will develop his physical, emotional, cognitive, social and language domains. The Director, Susan Wilson Henning, has a passion for kids! She holds a B.S. in Music from Illinois State University and has been a professional singer and actress for many years in a wide range of productions and venues including film, TV, musical theatre and opera. Teaching Kindermusik since 1999, Susan is a Maestro Level Instructor, representing the top 5% of Kindermusik educators worldwide for building a truly expansive program and proving masterful in outreach.  Additionally, Susan is an adjunct faculty member at the College of Lake County in the Early Childhood Education program.

Village engages your baby’s senses and rewards his curiosity with object and instrument exploration, vocal play, singing, creative movement and a colorful literature component.  Each Village unit develops language, physical, social, cognitive, and emotional skills. Two 8-week units are offered each semester.   Swoosh, vroom, and clickety-clack your way through “Zoom Buggy!”, our 1st delightful Fall unit. Engage in rituals and playful activities such as infant massage, lap bounces, exercise, and quiet time. The essence of the “Dream Pillow” unit is the loving interaction that defines the rituals of rocking, nursing, cuddling, and singing. Favorite nursery rhymes are sprinkled throughout the classes, making it easy to weave many of the class songs and activities into your families’ daily routines. Bring $36 per unit for required home materials, payable to Susan Wilson Henning, on the 1st day of each unit.  Materials include full-length CD, baby’s board book, visual stimulation banners, and a baby instrument for music-making at home.

Baking cookies, eating cupcakes, blowing on hot cross buns, wiggling like jelly, going grocery shopping and making tea are all represented in familiar as well as new songs. Sunshine, clouds, snow, rain, wind, storms… Imagine That! takes advantage of these variables to provide three- and four-year-olds with a myriad of creative, weather-related musical adventures.  Preschoolers create storm sounds with a drum to “Wild Storms,” jump in pretend puddles to “Mud Puddle Jump,” throw pretend snow-balls to “Snowballs,” and sing along to “Colors of the Rainbow.” They’ll be surrounded in a creative musical environment that integrates music, pretend play, story telling, movement, and more.  Children attend alone for the first 35 minutes; parent/caregiver joins class for the last 10 minutes. “Young Child®“ prepares kids ages 5-7 for private music lessons. Through 4 sequential semesters, your child will learn how to read both rhythmic and musical notation, helping ensure their successful transition to private piano, violin, etc. “Young Child” provides the opportunity to explore voice development, rhythm, notation, musical symbols and authentic pre-keyboard, string and woodwind instruments.  Students explore many facets of the musical experience–speaking, singing, moving, dancing, listening, creating and playing instruments, as well as learning to read and write music. As the capstone to the child’s Kindermusik journey, “Young Child” broadens and deepens the child’s introduction to the fulfillment and excitement of musicianship. For 5 year oldsEverything your child learns later in semesters 2, 3, and 4 begins with this early introduction to singing, reading, and writing music and rhythm. Through dances and games that focus on rhythmic development, we’ll learn a keyboard instrument—the glockenspiel—which will be used throughout all the Young Child classes. Appalachian music is a featured musical style this semester. We’ll learn to play chords and simple melodies on the three-stringed dulcimer. We’ll also explore rhythm concepts through dance with an introduction to the basic steps in jazz, ballet, and tap dances. Appalachia, African-America, and Native American music, as well as the Western Art music of the Nutcracker Suite
