 Kindermusik Village

For newborn to 18 months and caregiver.

HICKORY DICKORY TICKLE AND BOUNCE  and RHYTHM OF MY DAYVillage engages your baby’s senses and rewards his curiosity with object and instrument exploration, vocal play, singing, creative movement and a colorful literature component.  Each Village unit develops language, physical, social, cognitive, and emotional skills, 8 units in all.  Research shows the more you expose baby to nursery rhymes and songs, the stronger emerging language-learning skills will be.  That’s why the 1st unit for this semester, “Hickory Dickory Tickle and Bounce”, focuses on the rhythmic nature of nursery rhymes.  Our 2nd unit, “Rhythm of My Day”, brings music and rhythm into your daily routine, helping baby develop lasting learning skills.  We’ll show you how music can help baby soothe herself and contributes to building a strong network for learning in body and mind.  Bring $36 per unit for required home materials, payable to Susan Henning, on the 1st day of each unit.  Materials include full-length CD, baby’s board book, visual stimulation banners, and a baby instrument for music-making at home.

Kindermusik - Imagine That

For 3- and 4-year-olds
CITIES!  BUSY PLACES - FRIENDLY FACES
Imagine That enhances your child’s overall learning process through a remarkable blend of music, singing, movement, literature, instrument exploration and pretend play. With music as the common thread, each of the 15 lessons provides an opportunity for the child to reflect, compare, make choices, express opinions and preferences and engage in problem-solving activities. Sidewalks, elevators, skyscrapers, and world-traveling photographers are central to this semester’s “Cities” theme.  With pretend play as the focus, we will build a city out of handcrafted “buildings” and walk down sidewalks made of paper and tape. Children attend alone for the first 35 minutes; parent/caregiver joins class for the last 10 minutes. Bring $62 ($56 for previous IT students), payable to Susan Henning at the 1st class, to cover required home materials:  two home CDs, two literature books, manipulative play set, family activity book, nylon backpack and instruments—a pair of resonator bars.

Kindermusik - For the Young Child

for 5- to 7 year-olds
Young Child® prepares kids ages 5-7 for private music lessons. Through 4 sequential semesters, your child will learn how to read both rhythmic and musical notation, helping ensure their successful transition to private piano, violin, etc. Young Child” provides the opportunity to explore voice development, rhythm, notation, musical symbols and authentic pre-keyboard, string and woodwind instruments.  Students explore many facets of the musical experience–speaking, singing, moving, dancing, listening, creating and playing instruments, as well as learning to read and write music. As the capstone to the child’s Kindermusik journey, “Young Child” broadens and deepens the child’s introduction to the fulfillment and excitement of musicianship.
For 5 year olds Everything your child learns later in semesters 2, 3, and 4 begins with this early introduction to singing, reading, and writing music and rhythm. Through dances and games that focus on rhythmic development, we’ll learn a keyboard instrument—the glockenspiel—which will be used throughout all the Young Child classes. Bring $75, payable to Susan Wilson Henning at the 1st class, to cover required home materials which includes a glockenspiel, nylon carry bag, home CD, games bag and family songbook.

Kindermusik for the Young Child™
YEAR ONE, SEMESTER 2

There will be an additional charge of $55 for continuing students ($575 for new Young Child students), payable to Susan Henning at the 1st class, to cover required home materials which include a home CD, children’s folder, manipulatives, handouts, and family songbook.
